With an increasing number of building professionals prioritizing LEED design and the environmental impact of their projects, the demand for green products is greater than ever. Healthy, sustainable buildings have countless benefits, among them:
- Reduced operating costs
- Improved indoor air quality and a healthier space for the building’s occupants
- Reduced environmental impact
Mats Inc. values the importance of eco-friendly design, and we can help by providing products that are not only beautiful, but can also contribute to LEED credits.
MR Credit 2.1, 2.2 - Construction Waste Management
Construction and demolition sites generate enormous quantities of solid waste. The intent behind the Construction Waste Management credit is to divert debris from disposal in landfills and incineration facilities and redirect recyclable recovered resources back to the manufacturing process and reusable materials to appropriate sites. Mats Inc. offers a variety of recyclable flooring solutions which may qualify for this credit.
MR Credit 4 – Recycled Content
The goal of this credit is to increase the demand for building products that incorporate recycled materials, thereby reducing impacts resulting from extraction and processing of virgin materials. At Mats Inc., we offer a variety of products that will help to reduce your project’s carbon footprint, such as rubber flooring made from 100% recycled content, fibered products backed with hard-wearing recycled materials, and vinyl rolls and tiles that can be recycled 100%.
MR Credit 5 – Regional Materials
Building materials and products that have been manufactured, extracted, harvested, or recovered from within 500 miles of the project site can decrease your carbon footprint by reducing environmental impacts associated with transportation. Our collection of flooring solutions contains a number of products that support this goal, including a variety of foot grilles, sports flooring solutions, and contract flooring products.
MR Credit 6 – Rapidly Renewable Materials
The objective of this LEED Credit is to reduce the use and depletion of finite raw materials and long-cycle renewable materials by replacing them with rapidly renewable materials. In addition to virgin rubber and linoleum sports flooring products and Cocoa Mat, the revolutionary Bolon® Botanic Collection can contribute to this credit.
IEQ Credit 4.1, 4.2, 4.3 – Low-Emitting Materials
A vital element of a sustainable building is the overall health and comfort of its occupants. IEQ Credits 4.1, 4.2, and 4.3 address the need to reduce the quantity of indoor air contaminants that are odorous, irritating, and/or harmful to the well-being of installers and occupants. Mats Inc. offers low VOC and Green Seal certified adhesives and sealants, flooring products that meet California’s tough VOC standards, and many products that are FloorScore® or Green Label Plus certified that can help to achieve these credits.
IEQ Credit 5 – Indoor Chemical and Pollutant Source Control
The goal of IEQ Credit 5 is to minimize building occupant exposure to potentially hazardous particulates and chemical pollutants. The Mats Inc. CleanZone™ system can help contribute to this credit and it is a simple approach to a beautiful and effective entrance solution. A well designed CleanZone™ features three products with distinct functions to maximize the system’s effectiveness and capture particulates and pollutants before they reach the building interior.
